i don't normally be political in this channel, but this infuriates me:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4g54g6vgpdo

fuck you, i'm not carrying id with me.

they cite "illegal migrants", but 3/4 of illegals are so because they couldn't afford to renew their visas, which they got legally. yeah. 0.03% of society is undocumented.

but you look at the online safety act, and couple it with digital ID?

maybe loosen the asylum restrictions and waive/lower some costs. make it as easy as possible to settle here. let refugees work too - they currently wait years for settlement, and aren't allowed to work. maybe let them work and, you know, pay taxes.

but the migration nonsense is exactly that: nonsense. government just wants more information about us and more ways to control us.

you know. make it as easy as possible for skilled migrants to make fucktons of money and fund the state coffers.

      duh.

this video is one such example of how stupid the UK immigration system is:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR-F6JqP1Vw

this is a lawyer in the UK. watch him explain how difficult it is to move to the UK.

the whole system needs to be completely gutted and simplified. we can still keep people out who we don't want.

but lots of skilled people want to come here and can benefit us, but the costs and red tape is insane.

it's so easy to fall foul and become an undocumented migrant, even if you initially came legally.

@danny yeah, like i said in the other post.

most of those were legal when they came, but they couldn't keep up with the costs/bureaucracy of immigration system, so their immigration status lapses and they go undocumented by default

but yeah, let's just force everyone to tie their identity to everything they do

nevermind that it's already impossible to open a bank account, rent a house or sign up for GP service without ID - or that 2/3 of people who do come illegally get refugee status anyway

@libreleah yeah, our immigration system is entirely screwed, like you said we need to just entirely strip it and start over (really like a lot of our bureaucratic systems).

I'm glad that you brought up the recent digital ID stuff also, as I have strong feelings against it. I will be promptly disposing of all my devices that could possibly run it (I assume it'll be mobile based), I hope that's enough to at least resist it for some time, civil disobedience if you will.

I don't buy the claim that it is to reduce illegal immigration, mostly because I don't believe in the semantics of that claim (that's an entirely different rabbit hole though), I feel that claim was made to pander to groups that don't currently see Keir favourably. I believe that it is simply another attempt by "elite" political forces to surveil the citizens, although I have no doubts that there are high up monetary incentives for those who came up with it as well.

Anyway, safe to say that I'll be resisting digital ID as much as possible.
