So - I did a run. And it was AWFUL! For some reason I signed up to do the 8k group tonight, which is the sort of semi professional group. For context all groups run the same time but different distances. So loosely 6k is 8 minutes per K, 7k is 7 minutes per K, and 8k is 6 minutes per K. Which was quite far out of my comfort zone. I did it and feel otherworldly, but it was hell on toast at times (hills). There was also no 9k group tonight (who run at 5 minutes per K) so the 9s stepped down to do the 8 and I was basically stepping up, so was running with people 2 groups above me. They were all very kind and supportive but fuuuck me it was tough. Still. I did it and finished and am obviously very pleased, if feeling a bit like the weak link. My stomach muscles hurt and I've not felt so old and overweight in ages. Let's hope it did some good. It certainly banished the old demons. Those guys didn't know what hit them. I think they're all scared of me now. They're off cowering in some dark corner of my brain, whimpering, sorry they ever tried to mess with me.
There is something quite self-flagellating about the whole process. Punishing myself for whatever it is I feel I need to be punished for. But then once done, I feel very kindly towards myself. Proud and grateful. Well done, me. Thanks, me. You're welcome, me.
Neurodivergence has been once again quietened to a dull roar. Like a big waterfall nearby. You can hear it's mighty awesome power, but aren't in any danger of getting splashed. I have no idea what I'm talking about. X
