LOL Walked outside, where my son is playing with his ham radio... My son: "there's no one on the band!"
Me: "I bet you'll get someone if you call CQ. Sounds like it's wide open on 10m. Here!"
(I call CQ, get JA1UTQ in Japan immediately, near Tokyo)

@ai6yr I'm curious how you could hear the band was wide open? Asking because perhaps you had an intuition I should develop.
@IrrationalMethod @ai6yr thanks, y'all. Even if you're describing it in a hazy way, it's useful to know.
I don't quite know how to describe it either.
Watching the waterfall on my IC7300, there's definitely a quality to it when the upper bands are open. I don't know if it's atmospheric noise and other stuff coming from farther away, but it softens out the peaks from less intense local noise?
@roadriverrail There's a certain sound of the band when it's fully open... not sure how to describe it, but it's the kind of noise you can hear or not hear.... probably hearing atmospherics like lightning and whatnot...
