T8 was raised at 14:20 HKT yesterday, meaning most services are suspended. A few restaurants are staying open. During lunch all restaurants were chock full with people taking a last chance at eating out before almost everything closed.
Where I am it was windy but nothing extreme. Waves were high but calm down by the waterfront. A few hours later in the evening it was less windy, waves had increased in frequency, but were not higher.

The typhoon this weekend was unusually weak. It was nice to cool down the weather a bit, and it didn't even reach T8 level, which is where services start to close down. In US terms, that's a Green on the Waffle House Index.
The one arriving on Tuesday might be as powerful as the ones in 2017 and 2018, or more. Definitely a Waffle House Red.
The infrastructure is designed for this. The fridge is full of bread. We will be safe. It will be exciting.

T10 was raised at 02:40 HKT. I woke up 2-3 times from the wind, but there was nothing so extreme that you'd fear the windows would blow out.
Lifts are suspended, as power can be unreliable during a strong storm.
Now it's 09:50 HKT and it's raining outside, but not very windy. Up on the mountain peaks, the Observatory says winds are over 100 km/h with gusts over 200 km/h.
This could have been a storm worse than Mangkhut in 2018 if it had hit us straight on, but it passed 100 km south of us and is continuing further westward.

Some restaurants and other shops near the water, including a gift shop in Ocean Park, had their doors and windows broken or broken open by sea waves, and the insides flooded. clacke@libranet.de is my main repeated this. -

The storm is now west-southwest of us, 180 km away, and 2 h ago (13:20 HKT), the Observatory lowered the storm warning from T10 to T8. We have lifts again. 😊
