      ffmpeg supports it.
      mpv supports it.
      VLC supports it.
      Most web browsers beyond Chrome support it.

      Your problem is Winblows deliberately crippling free codec support, not the format itself.

      The only support it has is to embed on websites. Nobody supports the viewing of this format. Want to see the image? Too bad. All you get is the size of the embed on your screen. Want to view the image in a new tab? Guess what, you just downloaded it without asking to.

      @white_male @creamqueen @sally Which component?

      ActiveDirectory still can use RC4 for passwords for example.

      Bitlocker defaults to XTS-AES 128-bit, but XTS-AES 256-bit & AES-CBC 128-bit & AES-CBC 256-bit are supported too; https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/configmgr/protect/tech-ref/bitlocker/settings

      128bit AES is regarded as a bit weak, but it really makes no different as microsoft gets the key and they provide it to any government that asks nicely.

      @Infinite_Justice @creamqueen @Suiseiseki @sally Your encryption recovery key is actually stored in your Microsoft account if you logged in with your Microsoft account while setting up Windows 11. There's a whole complicated affair on how to get it while your system is in the recover Bitlocker state.

      It's completely stupid.

      @sally @creamqueen @Suiseiseki I just undid the C:\ encryption from the Windows CLI.
      I noticed that C:\ had no recovery key shown in the bitlocker status output, unlike manually-bitlockered drives.

      So, I assume from that, that, if your mainboard and the TPM dies, then all your data is gone on C:\.

      If that's the case, then I don't understand why more tech news places haven't warned customers about that.
