In Deaf culture we are VERY MUCH fans of the "long good-bye." Meaning if an event ends at 8, we're still in the parking lot at 8:15. Phoenix does not believe in the long good-bye. We stand up, the group slowly starts shuffling toward the door and Phoenix is gone! Out the door weaving me through the parking lot and someone gets appointed to chase me down and bring me back! Happens every time, you'd think I'd remember.

@gocu54 @mcourcel @Pawpower Man, I thought it was an Irish thing! lol
But it was more when I was a kid. I don't notice it as much now. That could just be because most of the people we used to do that with are gone, and now Mom and I are far away from the family and old friends we do have left. -

@Pawpower Shit! It's the same thing in French culture. First, goodbyes are at the front door, then we walk to the bottom of the porch and talk there. Then we surround the car, talk there. People get into the car, windows lowered, we talk there. All of a sudden, the motor starts, that's most likely another 15 minutes of talking. Driver revs the motor a few times, so that means, okay, we're almost ready to go. 15 minutes later, the parking brake is released. Now, you would think, we're in business? No, another 20 minutes. And all of a sudden, okay, we better go, there's school for the kids tomorrow. This happened so many times when I was a child.

@gocu54 @mcourcel @Pawpower It was the worst at parties when leaving meant circling the room 4 times to make sure you said good-bye to everyone, and if someone was busy or in a conversation with someone else, of course it meant you waited. Then on the way out you would have to stop every 2 feet to catch the people you missed. Then you would get that 1 person who followed you to the car...
