     @alice this isn't why, it's because the unicode committee does not want to be the arbiter of which identities are more important than others

     @alice yes, which is why they delegate to ISO 3166 for that. i believe they have explicitly and repeatedly said that they would accept a similar proposal for representing pride flags

     @alice I'm pretty sure that even despite this I've seen more pride flags online than country flags and there's a lot more different countries.

     The only country flag I've seen a comparable amount is Ukraine.
