Hmmm, I think of them as colleges, to school hardened criminals.
Don’t get me wrong, we do need prisons and crimes must have consequences. But a caring society which seeks to encourage and support people to live a decent life will have much less need of prisons. And the prisons it does have will rehabilitate much larger proportions of inmates than what happens now.
Of course if prisons are privately run, with profit as the primary goal…

I’m in Australia. Our system is deeply flawed, & the incarceration rates for Indigenous Australians are ridiculously disproportionate. And yet I don’t think our systems are quite as corrupted as those in the US, from what I can gather. However I can’t claim to really know.

@Susan60 @bmacDonald94 Ours are horrific...you have falsely accused rotting in prisons for years because they can't afford cash bail...paid off prison officials who are part of the gangs who run the prisons. The U.S. has seen it's best days in our rear view mirrors for a very long time. It's so heartbreaking when I had so much hope when Obama was elected in 2008...how fast we've fallen
