@Waxingtonknee Still quite a few people, as Apache calls it the "leading open source office suite" despite it now having years-old, unfixed security issues: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_OpenOffice#Security

        Apache OpenOffice
Apache OpenOffice (AOO) is an open-source office productivity software suite. It is one of the successor projects of OpenOffice.org and the designated successor of IBM Lotus Symphony. It was a close cousin of LibreOffice, Collabora Online and NeoOffice in 2014. It contains a word processor (Writer), a spreadsheet (Calc), a presentation application (Impress), a drawing application (Draw), a formula editor (Math), and a database management application (Base).Apache OpenOffice's default file format is the OpenDocument Format (ODF), an ISO/IEC standard. It can also read and write a wide variety of other file formats, with particular attention to those from Microsoft Office – although, unlike LibreOffice, it cannot save documents in Microsoft's post-2007 Office Open XML formats, but only import them.Apache OpenOffice is developed for Linux, macOS and Windows, with ports to other operating systems. It is distributed under the Apache-2.0 license. The first release was version 3.4.0, on 8 May 2012. The most recent significant feature release was version 4.1, which was made available in 2014. The project has continued to release minor...

@petitmote @Waxingtonknee Ask them! Email press @ apache . org and ask them why they call it the leading suite despite no major release since 2014, and their security team giving it a "red" security status. The more people who do that, the more chance they might finally retire it...

@libreoffice @Waxingtonknee I just don't understand why Apache is still distributing OpenOffice. I mean, they're one of the most important open source foundations, they're doing mostly heavy serious work. Why don't they just say "OpenOffice is over, stop using it, use LibreOffice" ?

@Defolos It still "exists" in the sense that Apache keeps distributing it, despite no major release since 2014, no minor update since 2023, and now years-old, unfixed security issues: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_OpenOffice#Security – Unfortunately they still call it the "leading open source office suite" so many people still download it 🙁
