They targeted shitposters.
Shitposters.
We’re the kind of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks hand‑crafting a 37‑post thread with line‑break timing, cursed images, and alt text punchlines—just to chase a single pity fav and one (1) boost.
We punish ourselves reading 120‑reply arguments across three defederated instances, manually stitching missing context from screenshots because the remote didn’t fetch. We call that “Tuesday.”
We’ll spend most—if not all—of our free time min‑maxing a joke: tuning the CW, rewriting the opener, reordering the images, picking the exact WebP that compresses into the funniest artifacts, all for an extra half‑laugh in someone’s local timeline.
Many of us turned this into a lifestyle: mods with modlogs older than some instances, admins who can spin up a single‑user server on a $5 VPS mid‑commute, maintainers who can quote ActivityPub verbs from memory. We’ve migrated accounts so many times we can compose an apology post blindfolded.
Do they have any idea how many timelines we’ve bricked, how many posts vanished into 410 Gone, how many follower lists got eaten by a move, how many backups we restored from some suspicious YAML? All later filed under “funny story.”
They think this is a fight they can win? Take our toys? We fork them. Silence our instance? We spin another. Defederate us? We make a zine, a mirror, and a bot that reposts from orbit. Call us cringe, terminally online, reply guys, Extremely Normal—please. We’ve been roasted harder by an anime avatar in our own replies.
They picked a fight with people already desensitized to outrage cycles and ratio talk (there is no ratio here, king). We treat block/mute like a skill tree, keep receipts like archivists, and consider a three‑day drama storm “free content.”
Tell us we don’t matter and we’ll turn it into a 12‑toot manifesto with impeccable alt text. Our compulsion to post after being told not to is a honed reflex—trained by years of being the main character on someone else’s local timeline.
Shitposters are competitive, stubborn, by nature. We love a challenge. The worst thing you did was challenge us. You’re not special. You’re not original. You’re not the first. You’re just today’s main character—another thread to derail, another modlog entry, another CW: “extremely normal post.”
