The ai companies keep arguing that the law needs to change, but that's like a burglar arguing that the prison sentences are too long, because if they steal 1000s of items, They'll go away to prison for the rest of their life.

We need to keep these damages because we need to reign in corporate exploitation.

"#Anthropic Settles Major AI Copyright Suit Brought by Authors" Precedent set? Both of my #Scarfolk books were downloaded and pirated from the LibGen 'shadow library'. Compensation would be nice. Anyone aware of other class-action lawsuits I can join, or have any other legal pointers? https://news.bloomberglaw.com/class-action/anthropic-settles-major-ai-copyright-suit-brought-by-authors #AI

@lain @encthenet @feld It seems to me the solution to the problem of AI scraping is for one person to scrape websites and then provide it on bittorrent so it doesnt' ddos small sites

@feld @encthenet I don't understand, are the people against AI scraping also against Anna's Archive/Scihub?

@sun @encthenet @feld come on, it's easy: companies using pirated books are bad, people using pirated books are good. get a brain, moran.

@encthenet this is creating quite the Streisand effect too. Now so many people are going to know how to pirate books from Library Genesis / Annas Archive because people won't shut up about it

@sun @encthenet @feld yeah, i don't doubt it's real, but even then, the annoying part must be noobs who don't yet know how to do it without annoying people. if they survive, they'll stop annoying people.
