Given the absolute insane rage over Google's Android decision (already 1806 points in HN), there is an opening for an alternative phone platform.
Maybe @jolla's Sailfish OS could get wind on their sails from this? https://sailfishos.org/

@Ciantic @jolla Would this just mean a Google-free Android Linux phone stack? LineageOS? Or rebuilding from ground up on new Linux based OS?
@tchambers @jolla SailfishOS is more Linux based than Android (they do make hardware as well.)
It does have Android compatibility layer, but it has same problem as @GrapheneOS in that app makers are being bullied by scaring about "security" to do Play Service Integration checks etc. which makes those Android apps not work in there. Usually the banking apps.
> SailfishOS is more Linux based than Android
No, that's completely wrong. Linux is a kernel, not a specific userspace environment. Using systemd and glibc doesn't make it more of a Linux distribution. Most of the projects you're associating with Linux are cross-platform compared to Android's userspace which is currently Linux only.
SailfishOS has a largely closed source user interface and application layer, unlike AOSP which is open source.
@Ciantic @tchambers @jolla GrapheneOS has near perfect compatibility with Android. It's far broader app compatibility than what's provided there. There are a tiny number of apps banning GrapheneOS due to it not being Google certified and progress is being made on convincing apps to permit GrapheneOS. Multiple banking apps including Swissquote have recently chosen to explicitly permit GrapheneOS via hardware attestation despite being unwilling to remove these checks since it's much more secure.
