@mia antennapod itself has been a consummate professional. but the podcasts themselves are infested with like 30+% advertisement density. seven minute episodes and 4 of that is ads i cannot take this shit. he spends more time talking about POOL COMPANY STUNG ME WITH A BEE I MIGHT DIE GUYS (BUY MY MEMENTO MORI TOKEN AND MY BOOK) than the actual content like god fuck :blobcatgooglynotlikethis:

You can per-feed skip the first/last N seconds, which cuts down significantly on ads for me, but unfortunately mid-file ads there's not much to do about those. I recently dropped a podcast because it was literally 30% ads.

@nicholas @mia @slash my loose rule of thumb is that radio ads growing up were like 30-55 minutes of music and then some ads. if the ad density is higher than a few minutes an hour its going out the fucking window.

@slash @mia antennapod will accept a local folder as a source. down side is bulk delete doesn't seem to work here (bug?) syncthing->mobile works. but propagating the deletes back is a pain without bulk delete working.

alternatively audiobookshelf will take files and present RSS. or you can use genrss with a pop-up web server.

aside from the test podcasts most of my stuff is ytdlp dumped :neocat_woozy:

@icedquinn @mia that's because on top of the sponsorships, the CDNs hosting the podcasts are stitching in local ads midroll for the podcasts and many of the hosts seem to be none the wiser to this phenomenon. Very annoying and I wish I knew an easy way to banish that stuff since I listen a lot to podcasts when I commute.
