I respect that many of you do not want anything to do with Goodreads, but I just wanted to put it out there for anyone who loves graphic novels. Goodreads Giveaways has an unusual number of them to enter to win right now. They have twenty one graphic novels on the Giveaway page (under "Browse"), whereas they usually have around four.

@mloxton @LoganFive @bookstodon In addition to Amazon having taken over Goodreads and then promptly treated it like an orphan, with no attention to how well it runs from a tech standpoint (like updates and such) there have been other problems. I believe that some authors are advised not to read Goodreads reviews of their books, because often there are some unhelpful and mean reviews, and even review bombing, where they get hit with a bunch of one stars, most often by people who have not even bothered to read the book, but just don't like the idea of its existence. It can be a toxic place for writers. I have not experienced much of the bad stuff as a user.
I have transitioned to Bookshelf as a tracking app, but they have an understandably limited character count for reviews, and almost no one sees them, because it is not a social media app. So, I end up doing my full reviews on Goodreads. Also, in talking to a lot of authors, they feel stuck, because Amazon is the only place they can get their books seen enough to actually make some money, especially e-books. I respect authors, so I try to understand both why someone would or wouldn't use Amazon and Goodreads. In my experience, the giveaways have introduced me to a lot of books I would have never seen otherwise. And by talking about it, others become interested in the book, too.
It's gratifying to see a surge of interest here on the fedi about new books that are out. I've seen people decide to buy a book based on the reading experience of someone they have met on here that they know and trust. That's a beautiful thing. I hope it continues to grow.
