@sun the paper states actually the following: about 1 in 100 people are simultaneously quite smart, thoughtful, and emotionally stable people that are more than good enough for any task that isnt combined-brainsurgery-programming-rocketscience. 16% are not terrible in any of those measured and maybe-good at one or the other.

85 out of a million (or, 0.0085%) are hyper-geniuses in two (only two) measured dimensions simultaneously. the study also takes extra effort for a full paragraph to state why the 0.0085% of people who score high standard deviations, can suffer as a direct result in X, Y and Z categories of skills, which may be undesireable for a specific type of job. It also states "out of 20 million people, an estimated 1 or less persons will be exceptional in all 3 categories"

i will cast the heavy shade of doubt on the validity of those numbers, not that i think that they are wrong, but i am willing to bet that the simulations ran to get these numbers are flawed (as they are made with programming via ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity). Knowing that a strong half+ of people who do this type of thing make the algorithms for their simulations just outright wrong, i press X to doubt the validity of this persons accuracy in their simulations and formulas (again, not that i dont believe that these numbers cant be real, or arent real, i just doubt the skill of the person writing the paper)

i have seen and i have heard of the retardedness of bad formulas inside published science papers and the production of science papers, and that distrust of potential incompetence is embedded deep inside me.

Also the simulation was only run once with a set random seed of 123, which shouldnt be an issue, but again im afraid that it might be an issue. Running it with different seeds, maybe it gives, instead of 85 people of ultra exceptionality, 120 people. Unfortunately no time to verify this or the code that is there to check, nor willing to. The ballpark would remain the same, but the range of potential answers might shift significantly with the added knowledge of multiple ran simulations.

@lebronjames75 btw if you have worked with scientists:

      > During the preparation of this work the author used ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity to help with the generation of R scripts

ChatGPT is better at programming than scientists are tbh

@sun completely irrelevant that the AI is better at programming than them; its not about the program working or not, its about the algorithm being accurate and spewing the correct answer in the end, and that is fully decided by the scientist (which, as stated before, is very incompetent at this actually)

they have NO fucking idea about the intricate details of complex programming formulas, and i feel you dont have an idea about how much of an idea they dont have. They WILL prompt wrong, they WILL not test the outputs, they WILL not realize the output is not what it should be

@lebronjames75 when I say bad at programming I don't mean they name their variables x and y and z, I mean they are so bad at programming that they get the wrong results. It is not uncommon at all

@sun slightly related: i just started to wonder what my IQ was according to the Mensa IQ online practice-test, (used to be some 140 but lol if you learn programming and can rotate cows in your head then you can get this number)

the website for mensa IQ is sub 75 IQ and that pissed me off, and i aint using no unstandard screen resolution. frustration station and shit web design

@mischievoustomato @sun meant to say sd, standard deviation
2 standard deviations of deviation from the center average point, though i didnt specify in which direction

which translates to roughly 5% of a group when there is only one variable to standard deviate twice from (or more), and ~ i forgot, i think like 0.0125%? when there are 3 variables (like in this science paper)

theres also a super gaping flaw in the title of the paper which makes it super clickbaity

      que sera, sera
