In response to one of Facilitated Conversations prompts regarding the book Mediocre, a participant named what many of us know but rarely put into such clear terms: the fragility of white male identity.
The list they shared as “threats” to white male masculinity included:
→ Reliance on others for basic needs
→ Feminine-coded behaviors or traits (that would portray men as “soft”)
→ Imposition or restriction of independence
→ Disobedience to authority
→ Cooperation or communal ways of living
