   I just understood that the government forcing people to pay taxes is the foundation of the monetary system, with the money given out by the government being debt they incur and taxpayers paying back that debt.

     @kaia Yes but those were mainly started because of war. If I dopn't mistake taxes in France after the revolution for example started to fund Napoleonic wars/campaigns. And they never stopped since. Same for the USA, it started in WW1or 2.

     @kaia that's literally why money was invented in the first place, which is why nations that were built in a different mechanism (eg corvées) never or barely developed the concept of money, although the two can be applied together, see e.g.
