Unpopular but right opinion: the only legal light type for automotive headlights should be sodium vapor lights.

Unlike blue LEDs, they won't blind oncoming traffic or folks in front of you thru reflection in mirrors, and they give vastly superior object visibility/sharpness due to monochromatic light.

@musevg 589 nm, a sort of yellowish orange. But being monochromatic, if they're illuminating stuff in the dark you don't even really see color under them except possibly as a result of fluorescence or constructive interference.

@wcbdata Only if we can also use R600a refrigerant in the AC. 🙃

@dalias I say we go back to gasoline headlights. Add more moral hazard to head-on collisions!

@dalias 3000K LEDs are also monochromatic, and make excellent fog lights

@hyc Do you have more info? All the white LEDs I'm aware of are actually the hideous blue ones with phosphors to produce lower frequency components.

@hyc There are 590 nm amber "turtle" LEDs that are monochromatic but those are not 3000K or "white" by any means. I can't find anything sold as a color temperature that's monochromatic - the whole idea of CCT is simulating a black body curve, no?
