Hiking injuries are so demotivating. They put a brick wall in front of you that serves as a direct denial of your purpose.
Actually, I’d argue a minor injury is WORSE. It’s not serious enough to force you off the trail for good, to cancel the adventure and go home. At least that would be a definitive direction. Instead you wait it out, carefully nursing yourself back to health and suppressing every instinct to keep going in spite of the pain.
