NeonkAaa (nk@social.076.ne.jp)'s status on Friday, 12-Aug-2022 17:20:17 JST NeonkAaa @ryo Why should I update my browser in case there are only 5 browsers and I'm currently accessing this page using one of them? 寮 likes this. -

digdeeper@mastodon.honeypot.im's status on Friday, 12-Aug-2022 23:45:19 JST digdeeper The marketing slogans are funny. Chrome = simple? lol. Firefox = LESS memory usage? Less than what? (it's actually the biggest memory hog out of *all* browsers - yes even Chrome). And then:
>You can also learn about alternative browsers that may fit you even better than the one you are currently using
Where are the alternative browsers? Those are all mainstream.

寮 (ryo@social.076.ne.jp)'s status on Friday, 12-Aug-2022 23:47:38 JST 寮 @digdeeper Wasn't Furryfox the lesser consoomer when it comes to RAM though?
If not, then there really is no reason left to prefer hardened Furryfox or LibreWolf over ungoolagged-chromium or Iridium.
Or qutebrowser which I like more, but no extension support.
Or NetSurf if only more websites were using XHTML 1.1 or HTML 4.01 instead of HTML 5... -

digdeeper@mastodon.honeypot.im's status on Saturday, 13-Aug-2022 06:35:19 JST digdeeper I did tests a few months back, FF ended up taking A LOT more memory than Chrome (and all its forks). All done with an empty tab and the same setup, so unbiased.

寮 (ryo@social.076.ne.jp)'s status on Saturday, 13-Aug-2022 06:36:11 JST 寮 @digdeeper I see, so I guess Furryfox really doesn't have any meaningful advantage over Chromium anymore then... -

Yes I have heard from normies that Chrome takes less memory.
I think one of the few reasons would be people want to follow Tor Browser's fingerprint, or for political reasons (you know, like "FF fights. Evil Chrome" or "I <3 Opensource"), or scared by the sourcecode size of Chromium.寮 likes this.
