The IRS has now changed the rules to allow churches to endorse political candidates without fear of losing tax-exempt status.

Although the IRS rarely enforced the rule as it was, during President Trump's first term he promised to "get rid of and totally destroy the Johnson Amendment and allow our representatives of faith to speak freely and without fear of retribution."

I actually thought this was allowed in Canada already, because when I was living in rural Alberta this is exactly what the church was doing. I just didn't realize that they were breaking laws because they aren't enforced. Regardless, it never sat right with me.

As they say, there are two kinds of people you should never trust: A religious leader who tells you how to vote and a politician who tells you how to pray.
