    years of watching city planner videos prepared me for this: gotta rip up the entire roundabout!

      @Hyperhidrosis @kaia Generally a regular intersection results in worse traffic than a roundabout and t-bones (while a roundabout forces people to slow down and turn, thus t-bones almost never happen) - although in the parasitic case people are hopeless and have managed to jam up a roundabout.

      @kaia why not a regular intersection?

      @taylan @kaia @Hyperhidrosis Roundabouts certainly offer better throughtput than an intersection with dual or quad stop signs.

      Roundabouts offer worse throughput than an intersection with traffic lights in case of high traffic, but it should actually not be possible to jam it up either if people follow the rules.

      Assuming the German rule of "whoever is within the roundabout has the right of way; those wanting to enter it must yield."

      @Hyperhidrosis @kaia Drivers like that will jam those up too, but yes if a recurring fortune is spent on licensing proprietary traffic light software, an intersection can be force-unclogged.

      @Suiseiseki @kaia can't they just put more traffic lights and turning Lane lights?

      I've been driving in this one busy intersection and the red light interval is around 2 minutes. each lane gets a good amount of time to clear out.

      @Hyperhidrosis @kaia @taylan Yes, that is the proprietary method that allows scanning the plates for ANPR usages.

      You can more reliably place a magnetic loop in the road that can be used to measure how many cars are on the road just fine and automatically change the light to green if a car is waiting and there are no other cars.

      @taylan @kaia @Suiseiseki traffic lights are dynamic.
      they have cameras to see how many cars are on the road and adjust wait time accordingly.

      @Hyperhidrosis @kaia @Suiseiseki

      At low rates of traffic, lights actually decrease throughout, since they force people to wait at an empty intersection.

      Also, they're quite expensive.
