   People talk about how unpleasant colonoscopy prep is, but no one really warns you about just *how* unpleasant

   The parts I thought would be bad were... fine. The parts I didn't anticipate (and no one mentioned) were completely awful

   And losing an entire night's sleep for a 9:30am procedure 5 hours away and counting) is super terrible

     Don't get me wrong—it's not even in the top 10 most unpleasant medical things I've dealt with in the last 6 months (it's been a tough year)

     But this was the biggest delta between expectation and reality. Had I known that it could take 4+ hours for the first dose to start working, and that during those 4 hours the 64 oz of liquid I'd consumed would lodge itself under my sternum such that Ipecac started to look appealing... I'd have made better choices, like starting 2 hours earlier

     @kims It's not fun, but I don't think it would even make my top 10 of the most unpleasant experiences I have had.

     @kims The disrupted sleep was very unpleasant. Pouring gatorade into my body and having it pour out of the other end was really horrible. My butthole did not enjoy the experience. Next time (and sorry if this is TMI, I'm going to slather the entire area with vaseline.

     But the actual colonoscopy was just a nice, drug-induced nap.
