I think the only thing I genuinely miss from Misskey, which I wish was just like a "standard feature" of all Fediverse software, is Misskey's user drive feature which lets one directly manage one's uploaded content, treat it like a form of cloud storage, and select previously-uploaded files for appending to new posts thereby solving file duplication. I know that Mitra ostensibly has a sort of file hash that should prevent file duplication of exact file copies from being stored, but it is a bit different. Misskey is a bit "overkill" for a small instance like mine, and Mitra fits perfectly. However, that's about all I really miss from Misskey. Not to say that Misskey isn't phenomenal software itself---it would be my first choice if I planned to host a larger community. Mitra is perfect and ideal for smaller communities. Different tools for different applications, I guess.

@adiz Previously uploaded media can be found in the "Gallery". What if we allow drag-n-dropping images from there to the post editor? That would make image reuse a bit easier.

@adiz No, just click on the paperclip button, there will be a dropdown menu where you can choose "From URL".

@silverpill So, I'm wanting to try it out. Do I just copy the direct image URL from images in my gallery and paste that URL into the body of a new post? And, when posted, it will be the image itself vs. the URL?

@chris @silverpill I was thinking something like when you go to attach an image to a post that selecting already-uploaded images from your gallery could be an option.

@adiz @chris I added an option to upload media from a URL in version 4.6.0.
You can copy URL of an image from your gallery and easily attach that image to your post without downloading it first.

I'd vote for that ability!

@adiz Under the hood, it is uploaded afresh, but files are de-duplicated on the disk so that doesn't matter.

@silverpill I thought I'd been doing hard page refreshes. I guess to empty the cache entirely I have to do that via a developer menu. I see the drop-down menu now!
This image here should be an airplane that I had previously uploaded and is in my gallery. Therefore, I should assume that the file shown is the one that was previously uploaded and is not a new or redundant file uploaded fresh to the server.

@adiz I see that you're on 4.6.0, so the menu should be there. Have you tried to refresh the page?

@silverpill Strange. I am on Mitra version 4.6.0 but I don't get any dropdown menu when I hit the paperclip attachment button. I've tried on both my phone and my laptop and in both cases it just opens my systems' respective media upload interface.
