   So... why does everyone seem to have such an aversion to just using either one consistent energy unit or just using Joules? Why do UPS's have to invent yet another unit of energy to say the same thing as Amp-hours?

     @skylar@misskey.yandere.love yeah I get that, just kind of makes it a complete pain to figure out what actually might be enough for me when everything on Amazon only advertises what the inverter can provide and not the battery capacity.

     @dotnet you gotta look up the replacement battery pack and figure out what size SLA batteries it's got, and in what configuration.
     i'm assuming consumer UPS because you're not also looking at input voltage, output voltage, circuit ampacity, and plug type
     
     (you guys can ask me to help size a UPS too, by the way)

     @dotnet but VA and watts are important to know too, you need to know what the inverter is capable of providing, not just the size + voltage of the battery

     @skylar@misskey.yandere.love yeah, that's why I expect UPS stuff to also use amp hours, but they just have VAs and Watts, which is almost pointless unless I'm fucking up basic electricity stuff
     
     I get not using joules since you kinda have to pull out a calculator to get any useful numbers out of a joule rating, but that'd still be better than using units other than Ah and Joules.
