   I just wasted my entire lunch break trying to find a supporting news story to verify a very worrying hot take boosted by someone I generally trusted to not spread provocative misinformation, and now I trust that person a bit less to not spread provocative misinformation.

     I'm here for community and I hope maybe we can recover some day but it feels like that community has noticeably eroded. Worse, I worry that by being active here I'm helping people stay plugged into something that's hurting them. But idk what else to do.

     I've been noticing here and there friends I miss haven't posted on here at all since January and I can't say I blame them for checking out. I've had to set up a lot of filtration to keep people who are panicking over headlines and hot takes from getting their infinite cortisol hooks in my brain and ripping apart my health. Even with that shit slithers through all the time. Worse though is with all that in place it's just... noticeably quieter now than it was before the election.

     I could confront either person involved, but I really don't have the time or the spoons to argue with someone whether or not invasive thoughts and wild speculation are adequate justification to go and give everyone you can find a panic attack.

     @wagesj45 well ok I can't argue with that, but you have to promise me to use filters, timed mutes, and turn off people's boosts if you find that being on here is having adverse effects on your health and well being

     @jannem but it's not really "US news" anymore is it? One of the silver linings to my insomnia was that the people who live here eventually go to bed and the people who don't talk about other things because they existed at a safe distance. But now it's hot takes about it all night long. And the hot takes from great distances are often the worst because they don't care if I die here they're just mad it'll inconvenience them.

     I filter out as much US news as I can. And it definitely makes my feed a lot more quiet.

     Still, I prefer that to a constant flood of anxiety inducing posts I can do nothing about.

     @jannem I ran out of characters so I shortened it to "quiet" but what I really meant was there's this noticeable void where the community had eroded out that's filled with this sort of low grade miasma of anxiety vague posting by people I care about who used to talk about other things. Yeah, it's better than raw dogging every misleading headline and every hot take from arm chair journalists who just interviewed their Amygdala for today's breaking news and want to spread it around :/

     @aeva Everyone I know in real life that was on here has moved to bluesky.
     But I'm stubborn. I stayed on Google+ with 2 or 3 followers until it shut down instead of moving to facebook with everyone else I knew. I'll probably stay here until everybody interesting has gone silent.
