@feld
Not possible? None
Not implemented? Variable refresh rates between multiple monitors (missing support in Xinerama) and HDR. That's basically it. Anybody that complains about screen tearing should install a compositor and force vsync.✙ dcc :pedomustdie: :phear_slackware: likes this. -

@viq @pertho well that breaks auto-typing from password managers doesn't it? Last I knew that was still broken in Wayland -

@feld @pertho isolation between programs, e.g. making it so that not all the programs all the time are able to know all the keys you're pressing?

@feld@friedcheese.us no more framedrops or screen tearing was the reason Wayland was invented. I get zero framedrops with wayland+mpv, even with highly compressed vids (x265, av1, or vp9) and a high bitrate. Apart from that the main difference is avoiding 40 years of accumulated X window system cruft. -

@semitones @brettm No. 2 pencils don't have security vulnerabilities either, but I don't see how they're relevant to the conversation In conversation permalink -

@semitones @brettm I do, but I don't care because the only vector that matters to the average desktop user has to come from a malicious local process and if someone has that capability I have to assume they already have escalated to root by numerous other vectors at which point it's game over anyway and I have to wipe my entire OS In conversation permalink -

@brettm @feld I don't have framedrops or screen tearing as I don't use proprietary graphics drivers. In conversation permalink
