Fun fact:
Hernan was also worried about internal politics among his men. He initially had the blessing of the governor of Cuba to explore and conquer Mexico, but the governor withdrew that blessing. Not to be deterred, Hernan borrowed money to buy a third ship and sailed for Mexico. Some of his men were Cuban loyalists, so Hernan helped make up their minds.
