     Divers are using that blue stretcher to hoist it out. It’s a 350lb fish! They’ll use fresh water to shower it and remove parasites

     In the wild they might scratch themselves against rocks to do the same thing

     The resulting water and parasite mixture is called (informally) ‘snow’

     @skinnylatte You specified fresh water. Is that for convenience or does that provide a benefit? Does it stun the parasites and encourage them to detach, like fire on a tick?

     @joerg @humanadverb I asked an aquarist. They said that the salt water parasites attach to the fish and the freshwater helps to break those attachments. That’s my layman version of what she said anyway

     @skinnylatte @humanadverb wild speculation: I would assume that small parasites are easily affected, i.e. either killed outright or having their ability to adhere to their host reduced, through buildup of osmotic pressure due to contact with fresh water. Would love to hear whether that's correct!
