I think "ancestral homeland" is a strong term. The tie between people, cultures and land is deep but also problematic, connected to xenophobia and nationalism.

For North Americans, it usually means the place that your predecessors migrated from. There's usually a lot of mythology, as well as mapping into modern nation-states.

Anyway, I'm a yes, but. I've been to Jerusalem, and I've been to Athens. Amsterdam and London. I have other places I've never gone to, like Alexandria, Wales, northern Ireland, and Oldenburg. Sometimes I've visited old houses; other times I've just crossed the border.
