#Google moves to force #AI Summaries (yes, Gemini is reading your email) on all users (but you can disable them)

These will eventually hit all #Gmail users. Gemini will be reading your Gmail by default. I don't want that. If you don't either, you will be able to disable them by turning off all Gmail "smart features" in Settings. I've long turned all that garbage off. You (apparently) can too. And I recommend that you do. -L

@lauren Google has been reading your emails for years now, even before AI. Turning it off, turns it off for *you*, not for *them*.

Nothing that Google offers and requires you to trust Google, will protect you from their criminal business practices. The only thing it does, is making you sleep better if you fall for them

@shaedrich I've worked inside Google, so I'm able -- maybe better than you -- to separate reality from hyperbole regarding them. In any case, there is a difference between scanning email for spam, phishes, or even keywords for ads as they used to do, vis-a-vis feeding emails en masse into an LLM.
