men who were once innocent little weebs but grew up to be leftoids are also terrible, but they (generally) seem to focus more on what’s problematic in contemporary anime and manga, and are mostly just embarrassed that they ever liked ecchi harems and don’t want to think or talk about the ones they liked. this act of hunting down old favorites to shame them specifically seems to me to speak to a level of guilt and shame beyond simple embarrassment that women feel towards media, maybe because media feels more real to them and so they feel something like personal betrayal when they become woke to the supposedly problematic elements of what they used to love.
