   Two folks here on the Fediverse, @shantini and @divya, have set up a giving circle to help several families trying to survive in Gaza. This is direct mutual aid, with a direct impact.

     Divya and Shantini have vetted that yes, these are real people in real crisis who need help.

     The two of them aren’t professional fundraisers or anything. They’re just doing their best with the tools they have, trying desperately to help a few people.

     Yes, I wish that we had proper organizations — NGOs, a functioning democracy! — to help •all• the people in need all at once. We don’t. Elbow grease is all we’ve got.

     In both cases, this is money that is helping to meet basic needs under dire conditions right now. If you’re distressed by the news from Gaza (as I am), this is a way to at least •do• something concrete.
