     Your best bet is building Profanity yourself — it has relatively few dependencies and hands down superior to any GUI client :marseyshrug:

     @fiore The kernel, Linux does not handle XML (it's a good thing it doesn't).
     
     For GNU/Linux-libre it's called pidgin.
