@m0xEE i don't like anime really. and you aren't really allowed to remove it from the open source project without contacting the author. its too much neurotic control freak. i built my own system with pictures of a programming god
> In the end it would just get replaced with that abomination "Choose all bicycles! NOW!!! And you can go fuck yourself with your w3m!" — would that be any better?
"IT COULD BE WORSE!" doesn't mean it is good.
> something that they can't bring down just by shit-smearing it on Fedi. What is the point?
I saw something, I said what I thought. I have spent four words on it and I moved on with my life until you came to yell at me. I probably would not have spent any more words on it unless it came up again. I have spent a lot of words on CloudFlare.
There's always a way: don't like it — don't use it! Like "OMG, how dare anyone ask for donations?!" — okay, what's better: living off donations from those who do that voluntarily or working for an evil corporation that does all the evil by proxy and just extracts its revenue from us to pay them salary?
This particular thing was even originally done in a Fedi-friendly way, allowing links and whatnot through — yeah, it was just checking user agent, which is lame, but so what? In the end it would just get replaced with that abomination "Choose all bicycles! NOW!!! And you can go fuck yourself with your w3m!" — would that be any better? I think not. Yet people keep attacking lesser evil until some devil incarnate takes its place, something that they can't bring down just by shit-smearing it on Fedi. What is the point?
And it's all there: "You can change it in the source of course, nothing prevents you from it",— it actually seems pretty polite, but I'm sure the dev can get nasty about it, all shit thrown in that direction considered. So what?
the dev was pretty nasty and soapboxy way before this. very authoritative stance on everything, often wrong with his technical design.

xe makes 180k(usd) a year. he's not suffering for donations. but yes, if the code works well (and it doesn't) i'd fund the whole project for 6 months out of my own pocket. but the implementation is over-complicated and trivial to bypass.

the way it works that caused a lot of the stir was checking for any ua-sig that has mozilla in it which is many browser ua-sig. so spoofing a ua-sig lets you hop the wall easily. it's advertised as "ddos protection" this is not how you deal with ddos in a meaningful way.

sure this is a lesser evil. but there's no attack here. simply facepalming when i want to visit codeberg and nearly every time it triggers anubis. it's a computer science problem. i could really care less about the anime shit. i've alread got one that serves pictures of programming gods that doesn't persist the mozilla ua-sig pattern
@phnt@jae@p@m0xEE btw there are people i know who saw "proof of work" and he thinks it's some crypto mining bullshit anubis ain't going well with anyone LOL
> In the link above, it's advertised as "a Web AI Firewall Utility", which is an even bigger claim.
both equally poorly-baked. the concept and idea is a good one, the implementation i feel is not. if i had to flip a coin between using this and cloudflare, i'm going with cloudflare.
@jae@phnt@m0xEE fuck, they better name it "Anubis Enterprise" and have a link to contact a sales team with a custom quota just to replace that gay ass brown catgirl
@JollyWizard@jae@m0xEE@moth_ball Then no problem: I have decided that no one will use this shit, and thus I will never close a tab in disgust because it decided to demand that I prove I'm a human by computing a million hashes.
