     That said GNU grep probably could be improved.

     @a1ba At least I'm probably going to end up writing my own grep implementation, of course with taking lessons learned from the_silver_searcher.
     
     With caveat that I tend to use git-grep when I'm in repos because that allows to always avoid all the various build artifacts, which ignore files can't do.
