Too many losers on Bluesky went “um actually” 🤓👆 to Israel and Australia being in Eurovision.
Shut up nerds. Israel and Australia are in Eurovision because they're white settler colonies, because Europe is a project, not a place! I don't care about the legality of the matter! Until the Philippines joins Eurovision this will be true.

@miiamustang not to mention all the feel good stories of welfare and ecological restoration in Europe is only made possible by extracting wealth and wood from the global south.

And there is some kernel of truth to that.
At the same time, however, building a multi-national empire isn't exactly "progressive" in any way tbh
So while there might be some good things the EU supposedly does well for its people, it is still a hierarchical power structure which aims to be a bona fide superpower.
And I don't think any amount of "good regulation" will wash that taint.

My own feeling about this stuff is that, even though a "united Europe" is a white nationalist project in the grand scheme of things, the Eurovision Song Contest is less grand than that.
It's just nation-state PR event with pretty lights and glitter and has very little to do with geographic or cultural "Europe"
(also: "Europe" is not a singular culture or entity, no matter how much Brussels or EBU wants to convince you otherwise)
