     2a. they removed or added a train car and that invalidates the reservation
     2b. there's someone else already sitting there and they refuse to move.

     @kaia @phnt @rin many such cases. last time i rode a train in germany it was 3 hours late and the conductor asked people if they had space in their car to drive other passengers home because all connecting trains were already gone.

     @kaia @lain @rin I think that's also the reason why Czech Railways give it out for "free" if you order the ticket a day prior online. They probalaly still mark up the prices to accommodate that, but it's still cheaper to buy them online than at the train station I think.

     @lain @kaia @phnt @rin We just had two weeks of literally no trains coming into or out of Cologne at all because they're putting in a new railway interlocking system ... and they're already planning for the next major outage later in the year when they plan on actually putting it in production.

     @lain @kaia @phnt @rin German politics of the late 20th century essentially intended for passenger rail in Germany to die the same slow death through managed neglect like what happened in the UK, but then did a U-turn because early 21st century German politics committed to climate protection and realized that a convenient and cheap sci-fi alternative to railways won't materialize and every service running right now is in the middle of a it-needs-to-get-worse-before-it-can-get-better phase. It might actually get better on the other side, but politics could just do a U-turn again and then things will just remain fucked.
