   so, it seems that my only el salvadoran friend, who hasn't been back to El Salvador in 20+ yrs, is convinced that the country is incredibly safe now and that all gang members have tatoos and the government knows the secret translation of what each one means, so they can all go to prison forever.

   and now it's safe, so if someone says to do it here, then it's a good thing.

   This is the immigrant class that's totally getting fucked by trump, yet they take from their history and imagined history to make decisions about this country rather than seeing how THAT is the kind of thing that happens so far back in the chain of social evolution that we can't even see it from here.

     @skinnylatte I remember talking to my brother-in-law's wife's mom, who immigrated here from the Philippines. I was asking about Duarte and he was letting cops execute drug dealers they caught right in the street. Like, caught selling a bag of pot: get on your knees and die.

     This sweet little old lady was like, "oh, he's a great man. my home town is so much safer. ".

     I was dumbstruck. Like, here's the sweetest little lady. LIke 100yrs old, 4' tall, making me awful coffee and singing songs to my kids.... totally supporting a crazy dictator.

     I'm afraid to ask who she supports now.
