   living in the UK is such a trip because you can open legislation.gov.uk and there's a law from like 1688 that is still in force. and there's like thousands of these! i'm more used to "the oldest law still on the books is less than a century old"

     @russss @whitequark many of these old laws also apply in former colonies. IIRC the Republic of Ireland started a clean-up project and I think it turned out to be too hard to fix
