We need a "mix ammonia and bleach in a small enclosed space viral challenge" to solve this problem permanently.

@apropos @nyanide I can tell you, at least partially, how school chromebooks happened
Whenever I had some sort of assignment that required the use of a word processor, research, etc., but my parents had restricted my internet use or had some other objection, there was a commonality among all the objections
“What would the school be doing if we didn’t own a computer?”
“If the school requires you to have a computer then they can buy you one”
“The school district has no right to tell me what my computer must be used for”So it’s definitely not just to ensure students in poverty have a base level of access, it’s also to shut up stubborn karens and right/libertarian people who just want to be ornery towards any form of government.

@nyanide @r000t it's good because "school laptop" is an absurdity with how good laptops have gotten. It's cheaper than any alternative to just give children laptops as needed. Then the child would be vandalizing his own property.
