"I didn’t give a wit about new pope coverage, but the first American pope being a man with Black ancestry born in Chicago by way of New Orleans by way of Haiti. Names his self after the pope who condemned slavery? In the Trump era? Oh, baebae, I am HERE for it."

Tessie Prevost was one of the young Black girls who integrated New Orleans public schools in the 1960s after federal courts forced the system to abide by the Brown vs. the Board of Education ruling.

Pope Leo XIV has roots in New Orleans' 7th Ward. See his family lineage and history.
        from Hannah Levitan
In prior interviews, Pope Leo XIV said he was open to a vocation to the priesthood because neighborhood priests were always in and out of his childhood, as his mother often fed them. "Now we know why her cooking was so good— both her mother and father were from New Orleans."
