I love that in Australia it’s completely normal to see birds that look like they belong in the rainforest on your morning walk through a suburban part of a non-tropical city.
On the excellent BirdLife Australia Instagram one of their scientists recently talked about how Australian birds might be so bright because many tens of thousands of years ago a lot of Australia was covered in rainforest.

  1. Rainbow Lorikeet sneaking up on a much larger bird - a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo - and giving it a bossy peck on the ankle to 'move aside'.

  @joannaholman I love how we have birds that could have been plucked from the Angry Birds franchise - the rainbow lorikeet isn't afraid to assert dominance over the much larger cockatoos!
