   I really hope the cancellation of #Fosstodon made a lot more people wake up to the cancel culture bullshit that's been going on for years.
   
   Fosstodon is one of the most inoffensive, milquetoast fediverse servers ever, and the admin who "got them into trouble" really didn't say or do anything offensive whatsoever.
   
   If I remember correctly, he just expressed extremely mild pushback against some zealous ultra-woke take on reddit, and for that he was made out to be a freaking "fascist" so Fosstodon is now considered a "nazi bar."
   
   (Feel free to remind me of the details of what he's supposed to have done. As usual, most people will avoid mentioning the exact allegations, and just speak with a vague sense of "he's a horrible person who did horrible things" so people are afraid to even ask, let alone scrutinize the dominant narrative.)
   
   As I keep saying over and over again: If I weren't so blackpilled about human irrationality, if I weren't a big fan of Hanlon's Razor, I would immediately conclude that all of this is some sort of right-wing / proprietary-corpo psyop to destroy left wing politics as well as free software from within.
   
   But no, it seems people really believe in this bullcrap and push it in earnest.

     @Gina@fosstodon.org @taylan@fedi.feministwiki.org Pushback against those that harass the admins. I'm not a huge fan of Fosstodon itself as the "foss" part seems to be superficial at best for most of its users, but I don't think the admins deserve any harassment because one of their users posted something on a different platform.
     
     This is not about "the tension between moderation and freedom of speech", this is about a bunch of bullies online using every harassment tactic available to them to hurt other people. There was no tension to begin with, there was a team of mods that had pretty good intentions and guidelines. But because there was diversity of thought among them, they had to suffer though a harassment campaign.
     
     If people disagreed with the opinion of the mod (an opinion that is supposedly so evil even Hitler cried from beyond the grave, but has yet to actually been posted as a fact on the matter by the harassers), they could've either talked to him to share their viewpoints, or muted him to avoid his posts. This is what mature, well-intentioned people would do.
     
     But alas, here we are, people cave in to bully tactics, and the cycle will continue once more. I truly wish you the best of luck in your efforts, but if we're being honest, we both know Fosstodon will never be accepted by the cancel mob again. They've made up their minds, and everyone that disagrees with them is a nazi (a word that has lost all meaning thanks to the cancel culture) forever. The cycle won't stop until people dare to say "no".
     
     The real question is if you dare to stand up for justice, even when its inconvenient to your social status, or rather keep your head down and wait until they come for you.

The soon-to-be new admin is going along with the cancel culture mob instead of fighting back, telling them they're right and trying to appease them. She doesn't seem to understand you cannot ever appease such a crowd.
     
     In fact, their CoC (which is a tumor in itself to begin with) has been updated to also apply on spaces outside of Fosstodon, to ensure everyone will be kept in line by the thought police. Such a policy only ensures that no mod will have the option of individual thoughts and opinions. Diversity will have no place in your mind, comrade.
