don’t own a car, so i can’t imagine the hell i’d probably have to go thru to find and buy an un-enshittified one. i often think, if i were to buy a car without spyware and with the least amount of plastic parts, how old would it have to be? am guesstimating, at least 20 years old?

@blogdiva Hmm. The Citroen DS9 was pretty tech-free, if you don't count the hydraulics.

I pull up to a light and there is a lowrider with his friends, next to me, bouncing his car. I set the Citroen into the down position, then the up position. It sloooooowly went down and sloooooowly went up. It took the entire light change cycle. Those guys were dying of laughter.

@blogdiva 2005 cars are still plastic junk, but they dont phone home.
1995 cars are still plastic junk, and they only have rudimentary computers (compared to now).
1985 cars are plain junk, because of post-oil crisis attempts at efficiency and lessons not yet learned.
1975 was the end of decent cars that were simply gas driven automobiles.
1965 was the start of any sort of broad safety engineering. Before this, cars were literal death traps.

@starlily @blogdiva Agree! 60's cars were made to drive. 70's cars were made to ride in, and 80's cars got hammered by unrealistic mileage expectations leading to awful engines.

      I liked my Mustangs, lol.
