@sicp @jp @stelo I think it should have some sort of rate-limit at least.

@stelo @jp @sicp Usually a bot that posts more than hourly is better to set unlisted, but if it's two-way, that's not as bad as a bunch of one-way messages: you can talk to the void instead of just listening to it howl.
I was thinking, like, the links to joining some Discord server, that's kinda spammy. Maybe set the status to unlisted if it contains a URL or a hashtag, then there's not really an incentive to spam.
I don't know, maybe I'm biased against Discord links. I think it's a really interesting thing, I don't wanna ruin it.

@p @sicp @jp Making the bot 2 way is a really good idea, I think I'll try and do that now. What do you think is a sane rate limit? Rate limiting @'s makes sense to me -- if and when people start automating !tweet's I'll definitely ratelimit the posts but so far it doesn't feel strictly necessary to me.

@p @sicp It's been set to have 2-way communication now. Good idea about making posts with URLs / hashtags unlisted, I've gone ahead and done that too.

11:01:20 < Anonymous> @ p: @ jp Hello, computer.
I made it so it only checks for new notifications when new messages are received in the chat AND it's been over a minute since the last notification check.
if you think it should be longer delay, I can slow it down; right now it's checking for notifications at most 60 times an hour and in practice maybe 20-30 times an hour (idk, activity fluctuates with timezones)
sageru IRC is pretty neat. moderation works in a way that moderators can't see chatter's IP addresses. room moderators can also turn on forced-ID mode (like what /pol/ or 2ch has) where randomly assigned nicknames cycle every hour in a room.
I've been meaning to put the source code somewhere ... it's been running for about 13 years now, very niche project ...
long live IRC!

@stelo @sicp That is pretty cool. (Delay seems reasonable.)
