   so uh if it's not okay if apple imposes draconian restrictions on linking out of their store to a website where you have a more direct payment method

   can we do steam next?

   cause they literally just ban this entirely

   edit: for clarity valve bans linking to *any* external site that has *any* commercial activity. we weren't even allowed to link to bernie sanders site from super bernie world because it solicited donations and sold merch

     @eniko it seems different with Steam, since you generally have an option of where to buy a game -- I guess then locking you into whatever awful platform fees you want. On iOS it was deal with Apple or don't distribute at all.

     @threetonesun @eniko My question isn't whether you can wipe it and run your own OS, but whether there's a viable way to get games outside Steam and run them alongside the games the device was intended to run.

     @dalias @eniko you sure can, you can run anything that runs on Linux on it, or install Lutris and run that through the SteamOS interface. Or remove the OS and run Windows.
