IT'S BAD
the part where you have to really think about it and clarify your thoughts is where all the understanding and insight happens!- Rheristies and Johnny Peligro like this.

@deprecated_ii i like to use ai as an encyclopedia that can be asked stuff the same way you'd ask another person. Can it hallucinate? yeah, but i can notice those things since they don't make sense. -

@mischievoustomato you should learn how to do research yourself. it is a distinct skill and one that most people clearly do not have
you were talking earlier about having an offline coding AI. why? all you should need is offline docs
if the docs for a dependency suck and you can't work directly from them, maybe that's a sign you shouldn't use the dependencyJohnny Peligro likes this. -

@deprecated_ii sometimes i get stuck on an issue or waste time wanting to do something "proper" because I'm weird like that. It could help me reframe.
Yes, doing research on my own is not bad, i know how to do it, but i only have access to google now (no kagi) and searching with it is not good these days, more or less.
Also,.a lot of info isn't easily digestible as a beginner or someone with doubts and having the ai help clear that stuff (because I don't have a lot of time) helps -

@adiz @mischievoustomato You would be much better off finding source code from skilled humans and studying that. Build things with the tools and techniques you already know and occasionally acquire a new one through practice and study.
Chatbot code is distilled mediocrity even when it's not hallucinating.Johnny Peligro likes this. -

i do this often (nix user) but hey, I'm the kind of guy that takes "dont knock it til you try it" seriously unless its something I really find bad or gross. -

@deprecated_ii For me, I learn from example and from doing, not just by reading. So, I appreciate having an AI work with me to put together a code snippet or config or something like that and then explain what it is we're doing and answer my questions therein about what's happening and why. That's how I learn. @mischievoustomato

@deprecated_ii @mischievoustomato It is remarkably difficult to do research on the modern internet with how badly they destroyed search engines. AI is worse than google 10 years ago but vastly better than modern google.
