    Then it's not 160 billion in savings if it cost 135.

    Bring back DEI. The math was a lot better.

      The push by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency to slash federal funding will cost taxpayers money, nonpartisan group finds. Here's why.

      I don't think any of these analyses are delving into the value of lost services. Some citizens are harmed by these cuts. Are we accounting for those harms in looking at whether DOGE is really saving money?

      I seriously doubt it. My understanding is that most of the savings comes from elimination of jobs not finding inefficient processes or waste. Sure if you fire a bunch of people it costs less money but if you can no longer deliver the service required, you have not actually saved anything. You're going to have to just go without it or buy it elsewhere and probably at a higher cost.

      @TonyStark
      "The $135 billion cost to taxpayers doesn't include the expense of defending multiple lawsuits challenging DOGE's actions, nor the impact of estimated lost tax collections due to staff cuts at the IRS."

      In other words the net benefit may turn out to be even lower still.

      @RunRichRun @dangrsmind It’s not at all a stretch to think it will cost more than it saves.
