@steverocky @drwho @silvermoon82 The difference engine is not a general purpose computer. It's fundamentally an adding machine. The analytical engine was designed but never built. Babbage and Lovelace were tantalizingly close but missing important parts of the mathematical framework for computable functions, and Babbage's work was mostly forgotten by the time the Mark I was built. It's a bit like Archimedes and his flirtation with Calculus.
